Day 4

Today I literally spend the entire day researching different organizations.
I woke up and called the Ronald McDonald House to see about volunteering position they have. For those of you who don't know about the RMH, their mission is to provide a home for seriously-ill children and their families. They have provided more than 20,000 families with a place to stay and when necessary, the financial support that they need to make it through a very uncertain time in their lives. THEIR AMAZING! =D
I remember once when I was little, my mom, sister, brother and I, decided to donate our toys to the RMH, and it was also my little sister, Coral's Birthday, so all the present she didn't like we donated as well. We got a tour of the building, it was beautiful and heart breaking as well. This was many many years ago but I will never forget how protective of the children's safety, privacy, and health they were.
I called but once again, no one picked up! I wish I understood this no picking up the phone thing....beats me =/
I kept on researching places that were looking for volunteers, jobs for non-profit orgs, and trying to cause awareness, along with filling up my planner with different events coming up.
An organization that I'm very interested in helping is NOH8. It kinda became trendy now with many celebs which is kinda like blahhh but NOH8 stand for equal rights and trying to overturn Prop 8. In the past 10 years, Equality California has worked with the Legislature and the courts to ensure that all loving and committed couples have the right to marry in California. I'm sorry to say but I LOVE THE GAYS & LESBIANS!!! First of all one of my all time favorite shows was The L Word. The L word was a show about a group of close friends who were lesbians, it was the Sex & the City for the Lesbian community. Watching the show for 6 season really made you understand the things these group of women have to go through.
I believe in LOVE. Without love there would be no happiness. I believe that some gay/lesbian couple could make greater parents then some of the actually "normal" couples out there. I don't think its anyone's business but theirs if they want to be married. Who is anyone to choose the fate of these peoples life? America is suppose to be the land of the free! So I think it's important to be more open minded and show the rest of the world, that love is, LOVE. Love your daughter, son, father, mother, sister, brother, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband and wife no matter their gender! Let them have their rights.
NOH8 is having a open shoot event for the cause on:
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010
The House of Blues 6PM-8PM
8430 West Sunset Boulevard
Thursday, January 14th, 2010
The Yogurt Stop 5:30PM-8:30PM
8803 Santa Monica Boulevard

Their campaign are pretty cool looking. I love the art and creativity in it. So go! Have fun! Get a neat picture taken of you! and help support a good cause! I'm going Jan.12th!

After lots of research I ended up apply for a job that's working on a Campaign to stop ocean pollution. Funny enough, I posted about that a few days ago. Right now an island of trash twice the size of Texas is floating in the Pacific. This mass of bottle tops and takeout food containers kills thousands of marine animals like sea turtles and over a million birds every year.
I filled out an application, one of the questions on it asked, why you want to work with us. I wrote them about my project and about 10mins later I got a phone call back from them!!! YAYYYY! I have an interview tomorrow at 6pm! This is exciting stuff!
I'm also looking to work at a foreign country, just trying to find a good date for me, which country I want to help first, and the cause I'm most interested in.

So since I kinda sat at home all day, and although I suppose, I did "something" for the world, I felt like it wasn't good enough. I have this new theory, that its NOT the thought that counts, its the action that counts! So I donated $5 to The UNICEF Tap Project. I found out about this project, surprisingly enough, on Nicole Richie website. The love Nicole Richie she did some serious self evaluation and cleaned up well and now is very involved in many charities and opened one with her boyfriend Joel Madden from Good Charlotte.
Right now over 4,000 children die every day from not having clean water. Donating $1 can supply a child with safe drinking water for 40days. That's wonderful!!! COME ON PEOPLE A $1! In most places a bottle water is a $1 and that lasts us what? a day? if not a few hours. Help a child in need!
xoxo have a wonderful day or night!

Day 3

Hiiiii!!!
Well tonight was an interesting night. I was working all day and decided to met a friend at our usual cafe shop. At around 11:06pm I had this random idea, of going to see Avatar. I quickly searched showtime and found a 11:40pm in City Walk. We were in Santa Monica and it was already 11:17pm. We rushed to pay the check and ran out of there! We drove 2 separate cars and decided that it would be fast if I parked my car near the freeway in Sherman Oaks.
I parked my car somewhere on Ventura and I got into his car. When we were on the corner of Ventura and Van Nuys, we sat at a red light. For a second I saw a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk about 3 lanes over, I had this crazy idea of running out of the car while waiting for the light to turn green and giving him $4, there were no cars in the streets so I figured it would be perfect! But the moment I had taken out the money the light turned green =(
We rushed to the theater like two robbers, speeding, running through the parking lot and across City Walk, it was already 11:48pm and as we get to the box office they tell us there is only 1 seat left! I was in shock and of course highly doubted the fact at there is just ONE seat left! I asked to speak to the manager and he was kind enough to let me check the theater for seats. As I figured, there were a few seats opened but all random. My friend saw a few opened seats and told me to seat in them, meanwhile he went to pay and get me 3D glasses.
When I got there, this one guy told me that he was saving these seats for his friends, I was annoyed that he was saving 6 seats and the manager told me I can sit there, so I told him that and sat. His friends came by a few mins later and sat down. Then about a minute later, another guy comes up claiming that he went to get food for him and his girlfriend and now has no seat. He started arguing with the guys and they were arguing with me. DRAMA in the theater!
I am naturally a stubborn person who will stop at nothing to get what she wants, but I felt sooooo bad! This guy ended up moving to the very front row with his gf. I think the part that got to me, is that he so reasonable and sweet. I started feeling so bad that I actually started to physically feel it. I couldn't focus on the movie, all that was going through my mind on repeat was "poor guy! I'm such a bitch!" 15mins later, I got up and told him to move back to his originally seat and left the movie.
It sucks to drive 30miles to a sold out show, but I couldn't enjoy doing something on someone else's misery. So we left. I ended up getting a free movie pass and our money back! =D turned out to be a pretty cool deal after all.

On the way back to my car, I decided that if the homeless person is still there, that I would get him some In&Out. When we drove closer to him we realized he wasn't homeless hahahaha! He was just a hippy with his guitar! I was bombed out, but the moment I was about to give up, fate came to me!
I saw a homeless lady! I screamed out loud YESSSSSSSSS!!!! haha ;)
We ended up getting her 2 hamburgers (1 for today & another for tomorrow), fries, and then I went to the gas station and got her chips, crackers and a big water bottle because I figured it would be more useful then a cup of coke that would go bad in a day, plus hellllo people! RECYCLE! That's what its all about!
I got out of the car and gave it to her and she wished me a Happy New Year and blessed me. She had the biggest smile on her face ever! =D It was wonderful!

Tonight I also managed to actually write Oprah a letter about my project!!!
YUPPPP! I decided today that I'm gonna be on the Oprah show this year! You shall all see!
The tricky part about writing her, was that I can't use over 2000 letters! Do u know how hard that is!?!?! Let me tell u! It took me 2hours if not more! My original message to her was 5532 letters! I had to do alot of editing. 2hours worth. Notice how I wrote "worth" because it was all worth it.
Off to bed, ta ta!

Day 2

Last night I had planned to wake up early like at 11am and call one of my all time favorite Homeless Shelters, P.A.T.H. (People assisting the homeless). I had volunteered there a few times.
They have a great program for the homeless. They put them on a 6months program to get there live together. They give them all a little private room, feed them, clean clothes, and help them with job placements. They give them responsibilities such as curfew and other rules. The shelter is divided into 3 floors: Men, Women, Women & Children. On another side of the shelter they have a section called "The Mall" where they have different things like a salon, they have a courtroom, they even have classes to teach them things like typing, how to use a computer, and more skills. I really adore this place and this project. I actually once in High School suggested to my amazing English teacher to have us all go there as a classroom and we did!!! It was great! All the times I went there I helped cook and serve lunch.
The homeless were so grateful and kept thanking us all for being there =D
Well this morning I wanted to do it but I had woken up at almost 3pm because I went to sleep at 7am writing my blogs and reading my 10 pages. I made a goal and I cant stop not for a single day.
Well I ended up calling and they never picked up, I tried calling both shelters, there is one in Santa Monica and another in Los Angeles. None picked up! Boooo that sucks! I was looking forward to it. Maybe next weekend or tomorrow.

I went to have dinner with a friend today and realized that I had to go to the H&M at the mall to pick up clothes for a photoshoot I have tomorrow. I was trying to figure out what time they closed, so I went on there website on my phone and saw a section on the website that was to help a non-profit organization called "UNICEF all for children".
I think one of the world's greatest gifts are children. I LOVE LOVE LOVE KIDS! Everything about them! I love how excited a child gets when you tell them a story. That the simplest things like bubbles, rainbows, and butterflies make them so happy! I love how curious they are! Their just so excited and augured to learning new things! and of course they are big BIG dreamers!!! They believe they can do anything!...Kinda like ME! haha If I was to open a non-profit it would have to be for children!
Wellllll back to what I was saying lol. So I went to www.hm.com/allforchildren to learn more about this organization and they are actually one of the biggest, if not the biggest children's non-profit organizations! They help children from allll over the world in almost every country! You can actually go on their website and select a country and then read the time line of what they have done for that country! It's wonderful! Of course I looked up Israel ;) and then Italy and Iraq because they were all near eachother. It was actually pretty amazing to see how they helped for example Israel way back in 1948, they provided food, blankets, and other essentials for 18 months when Israel first became a country! Later on in 1989 Israel issued a postage stamp and memento page in honor of UNICEF.
What a great cause! LOVE IT!
I ended up reading more interesting facts for about an hour and then donated $5 to Israel. You can do it, to whatever country you want and you can pick for what cause. I choose "Whatever is most needed".
Yesterday as I read my 10 pages a day, I learned that there are 46,000 pieces of plastic waste in every square mile of the world's ocean! That's sad!!! Please pick up your trash and keep the ocean clean! It's one of G*d most beautiful creation! 40% of all sea life has been destroyed over the last 25 years as a result of human pollution =( thats terriblllleee!!!
I used to have a saltwater fish tank for a few years and know how hard it is to maintain marine life and no matter how much work I had to put into it, like making sure the water was warm enough, salty enough, and clean, it was soooo worth it and rewarding each and everyday to see my beautiful exotic fish happy and healthy! 75% of earth is the ocean! Keep our planet clean. There is trash cans all over beaches, please don't leave things in the sand. At night the tide gets high and the water raises and everything goes straight into the ocean =( It's very simple to grab your trash as you are grabbing the rest of your belongings. THANK YOU!!!!
Good night!!! =D

Day 1

So I wokeup today kinda freaking out.
I know I can make this goal of 365, but I started to realize how creative you really need to be to come up with 365 things on a daily base. I think that because I was thinking about it so much I kinda panicked and didnt come up with something so outrageous to start the new year with. I guess the thought of it is overwhelming but of course due able. So because I had mental writer's block all I did today was buy a recycle bag at the market. lol I know it sounds really silly and simple, but if I take it with me to the market each time I go I would be saving a lot of paper and plastic! On average, Americans use 12 plastic bags per grocery visit. Each year, Americans dispose of 100 billion plastic bags, only 1-3% actually get recycled and guess what!!! Thats saddddddddd! So I'm gonna really try to stop using plastic or paper bags. Plus there annoying anyways, they always rip and then they add up and u dont know what to do with them, weather you should save them for next time u need a bag or throw them away. Pointless. Let's start recycling =D

I also had a great shabbat dinner tonight, I thought it would be a great way to start 01/01. I actually really enjoy going to shabbat dinner. I'm not really sure how to word it but I love everything about it and the meaning behind it all. I personally find it beautiful. The more I learn the more I want to learn.
A close family friend of mine's husband hazar ba chva, and one of my favorite things to do when I go over their house on Shabbat is to ask him questions and learn more about our religion. I think its important as Jews or whatever you believe in, to truly understand why we do and believe the things that we do, not to just do them because thats how we were raised because the moment you find out the real meaning behind it, it makes you understand the beauty in your religion and in G*d.
With that being said, I'm off to bed its 7am and I'm tiredddddd!!! Nighty Night!

The Last day of the year

I wokeup feeling happy and not having a single clue as to what my New Years plans were. For the first time in years I had no idea what I was doing for New Years and it kinda made me smile. Ususally on New Years I'm either in Vegas or New York City but this year I decided that the way I want to celebrate my New Year is the way I want to live my next year, I orginally planned to honestly dress up for myself, drink a good glass of wine, and watch the ball drop in Time Square or I wanted to spend it with someone that means a lot to me. Sometime in the afternoon I decided to text one of my bestest friend's of many many years and greatly enough she had no plans. She loved the idea how of staying home and celebrating just us.
I then went to "my" private beach in Malibu. It was a beautiful day out and I wanted to go to my one of my favorite places in the world and write my New Year resolution and reflect on the past year. I always go to the McDonald's across the street and get a Hazelnut iced coffee and a large fries, but this time I also decided to get 3 sugar cookies as well.
As I sat down and found a spot, I had called my mommy in Israel to wish her a wonderful New Year, tell her how much she means to me and how much I loved her, I noticed this homeless man. Now I've been coming to this beach for a few years now and there is always this homeless man there that hangs around. He has these terrrrrrible open wounds all over his legs, its so bad that when you look at it, you literally feel the blood rush to your head.
After I got off the phone with her I looked over at him, I couldn't eat anymore, and felt so horrible that I wanted to give him my food and try to help in any way I can. I saw him reading a book and was so curious as to what he was reading and I guess at the same time surprised that he still can and does read.
When the time came to leave I was contemplating on weather I should just go up to him and give him the food, or maybe leave it near the trash can so that I dont make him feel as though I'm belitting him or make him uncomfortable.
I decided that I'm just gonna put it near the trash can and as I got ready to leave, he said "Happy New Years to you!", I looked at him with such shock that although homeless, he still knew the date and year. I smiled and said "Happy New Years to you too!" he thanked me and said "G*d bless u", I then said "Can I ask you something.... what happened to your legs?" He told me that he had an accident and it just spread. He then asked me if I believed in G*d and I said of course. He told me that his leg got infected 9months ago and that he was gonna die, he had no doubt about it. He knew his life was ending. He told me that since that day he prays everyday to G*d and that he reads the Bible everyday and just prays, and slowly it has been going away. These wounds seriously were all over his lower part of his legs, whines about 6 inches long! He had also told me that he was Jewish and that his mom had survived the Holocaust and that he was born in Jerusalem in the 50's and said that if he's mom had survived the Holocaust that he could survive this. It was just amazing to me. I kinda told him about law of attraction and to picture his leg the way it was before and to keep praying and it will go away. I also told him about this story that I saw in the news a few days ago about a boy maybe 14years old that had gotten 65% of his body burned by his classmates. This boy was told that he was gonna die and if he survives that he will never be able to walk again. This happened on Oct.12th if I remember correctly. His mom told her son that she doesnt want to know what in details happened to him but that she just wants to focus on the positive and the present time, rather then the negative past. She asked all close family and friends to keep praying for her son. Surely enough this boy was able to walk out of the hospital by Christmas! amazing mircale! I believe in them! and just speaking to this homeless person that showed me that half of his leg is healing and telling me that he is already starting to burely feel any pain made me want to cry with a smile.
As I was gonna leave, very causally I asked if he wanted the food because I wasnt hungry and I dont want to throw it away, I could tell he felt a little unsure of what to say and then said yes. I gave it to him and wished him true happiness. He thanked me for taking the time to recognizing his exsistance, for my kind words and stories, and blessed me.
As I walked away, I turned around one last time and saw him eating the food super fast as though he hasnt ate his entire life. I couldnt help but burst into tears.
He changed my life and really touched me. =*)

I then went to Barnes and Noble because one of my New Years resolutions is to read 10 pages a day from a book. Think about it, 10 pages a day is nothing! But think of a month, 30 days, reading 300 pages a month is like reading at least 12 books a year. Most people havent even read 5 books since they finished High School for there own enjoyment. You'd be surprised.
So I took it upon myself to educate myself even more than I already know! One of the books I picked up was "The Wisdom of Judaism", I'm excited to read it! The other was Kabbalah for Dummies and on my way out I saw a little box on discount that read "THE EARTH BOX: Be a Planet Hero" I got that too =)
Funny enough I opened it today and it has a book in it that's called "Planet Hero! 365 Ways to Save the Earth"! Law of attraction. How ironic is that! =D

I ended up having a wonderful New Years. I watched the ball drop in Time Square. I then went to Shelly's house, where I made us 2010 headbands from a used poster she had and cut out the handles of a Urban Outfitter's bag put some eye shadow on it to make it shine, and waaalaaaa! 2010 headhands! Its about Recycling!
We baked a cake, had some wine, took many pictures, and laughed till our stomachs hurt! It was wonderful! I couldnt have done it any better. No club, city, or party was better then spending the night with someone I care and love so much.

HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL!

The Dream.

Hello and welcome to my brand new journal.
For those of you who dont know me, my name is Hofit.
I have been writing and sharing my life expierences online on livejournal.com since the age of 16, I'm currently 24 and have taken a mission upon myself that will change my life and most importantly others lives.
Last New Years Eve, my only New Year's resolution was to do a single good thing for humainty a week. I decided that as people, we tend to take advantage of alot without at times noticing or appriecating the value of life and what we have, or the value of other peoples lives. I currently think that our society is very selfish, materialistic and disconnected. I feel as though people have forgotten the meaning of unconditional love, true happiness, nature, true beauty and so much more.
I'm here to remind the world.
All it takes is one.
Last year I learned so much about myself by giving the gift of giving.
Something so simple as donating a $1 to children's cancer, feedig ducks in an abandoned park, picking up trash at the beach, helping an old person cross the street, volunteering at a homeless shelter, causing awareness, or taking the time to help a complete stranger can change your life sooo much!
Doing 1 single good thing a week motivated me to better myself. I wanted to start off with baby steps and do it once a week, but in the last few months I've been trying to donate to the earth daily and it feels amazing.
Slowly u begin to notice little things, like how unnecessary throwing a piece of wrapper on the floor, how important beauty skin deep is, because looks are only physical, how much of the world there is to help out and how many people are in need, how fortunate you are, how beautiful nature is, how hollywood and celebs are pointless and reading magazines like US Weekly & In Touch are pure negative energy and eat your soul alive (although once I appear in a few of them). Just little things and big things.
Since I started my great quest, I've stopped completely buying all those tabloid magazines, I dont go on those celeb webites to read the gossip, I have no clue who's famous anymore or not lol, I stopped watching tv, I have a few shows that I watch and thats it. No more MTV, no more VH1 garbage, I even stopped listening to the radio like TOP40 stuff, because not all but most are shallow songs about pointless things like going to a club which is meaningless in my eyes, I only really listen to Hebrew music now, I dont go out to clubs at ALL! Last time I went to a club in Hollywood was in May for a friend's birthday, 2 times in Israel, and just this time when I went to NY and after 20mins I was asking myself why I went out in the first place. I'm sort of a lounger now, I like lounges, where you can talk about meaningful things and have a nice glass of wine. I don't really wear a lot of makeup unless I'm working. I've stopped shopping and I find myself dressing more conservatively.
Now I'm really into traveling and planning trips outside the country. Researching a lot of non-profit organizations and looking into opening one. I've been looking to spend some time in foreign countries to help the world. I've been learning about my religion more. I've been spending alot of time with myself doing things I would never do alone, like go to the movies or a resturant alone, but I love it now, and I find something beautiful about it. I've eliminated a lot of negative people from my life. I'm extremely spirtual and grateful for all that I have. Even the simplest change, going by my real name, HOFIT, has become liberating.
My entire LIFESTYLE HAS CHANGED!
All from a single act of giving. It's very empowering.
and so I've decided that that's my life long gift from G*d to the world.
That's it.
I would like to do something like, be a big international superstar singer, but I can still be a BIG INTERNATIONAL STAR and help make the world a better place! Kinda like the next Oprah!!!
I want to be a big world peace leader! I want to win the Nobel Peace Prize! You will all see! ;)
You see if you knew me about 2 years ago, I'd be the last person you'd expect this from. I've always had this in me but it's been hiding because I allowed the city of "Hollywood" to take over my true nature at heart.
2 years ago, I went by the name of Kim, I was clubing every night, I would spend hundreds of dollars on brand name clothes and accessories daily and only wear them once. On my free time I would watch shows on MTV, VH1, I would go to a newsstand and buy 3 tabloid magazines weekly, I would go on bloggers celeb websites for hours a day, I felt the need to say how "hot" I was from morning til night, I had many friends, not all but most were insecure, negative, lost people, with no morals and self love, yet I always found the need to help them so I had them in my life on the hopes of changing them for the better. All I wanted to do was be a famous celeb, I would show off, cause drama, start fist fights, I had a mercedes benz convertible, lived in a amazing apartment on the beach in Malibu, I had everything I wanted.
I was pretty extreme.
None of this of course came from insecurity, although it may seem. I never did drugs, never tried a cigarette, I dont have a single tattoo on my body, and I dont believe in plastic surgery. I just had different priorities.
I think it's important to understand where I came from, where I am now, where I'm planning on being next year and the rest of my life.

This year, I'm dedicating an entire year to the world.
I'm dedicating 365 of my life with acts of goodness for humanity. All of humanity!
Some days it will be small deeds other days big!
Everyday I will blog about my expierence of that day in the hopes of inspiring YOU to do better and be on the pursuit of changing peoples lives!
This world is lacking so much love, unity, art, creation and faith.
LET'S CHANGE THAT!
My dream is to change the world for the better. I know all it takes is passion, drive, a warm heart, ONE HUGE Dream, and I will never stop!
Because in my heart I believe that we are all good. I believe that even the murderer, rapist, drug dealer, kipnapper, has somewhere in there a piece of goodness, it just got lost. WE ARE ALL ONE. ONE LOVE.

Here we go!!! 365 days of selfless acts for humainty!!!!
