FRIDAY!!!
Well I wasn't scheduled to go into the Ronald McDonald House today but I was told from Jennifer, the volunteer Manager, that they need volunteers on Fridays so I decided to go help. On the way there, I stopped my the market and picked up some Valentine's Day cookies for the staff, children, and families. I'm SO glad I went because when I got there, there was only 1 other volunteer, but other then that no one was working the front desk which kinda made me sad because people call all day with questions and checking availabilities for housing with extremely sick children who need hospital treatment asap or I guess in general, anyone needing anything. So I ended up staying a 4 hours although I had plans because I didnt want to leave the front desk empty without anyone. I handed out cookies to everyone. Checked out a few families and helped families that needed any assistance. I also made packets for our upcoming event, which is our WALK, its going to take place on April.11 at the Universal Studio Backlot! COME! COME! COME! Also, I found out that every Friday we do a giveaway, where we give toys that were donated to the sick children, which I think is sooo nice! What a great idea! It made me so happy to see the children happy!
It's weird but I feel like I'm the only volunteer at the house that is really doing it for my own enjoyment. Everyone else that I asked, it seems, are doing it because they need volunteer hours for school =/ I mean I guess its still nice, I just wish more people did it because they WANTED TO, not because it was a requirement by a program or a class project.
Today I also found out about a non-profit organization called Cross Cultural Solutions that has different programs in different countries such as Peru, Russia, India, Brazil, South Africa, China and more. You can volunteer anywhere from 1 week to 12 weeks, its pretty neat! I was actually looking at information about maybe going to India!!! WOW India sounds so amazing! I love their fabrics, the henna tattoos, the culture, the amazing temples and building, even the food! It works for me because I'm a Vegetarian for 16 years and so are they! One of my friend's Natalie spend a few months there and said how amazing it was and that you learned how to make anything, she learned how to make clothes and bracelets. India is probably on my top 5 must see countries. Along side with ITALY! Paris, Egypt and Spain. I've only been to Israel, Brazil, Argentina and the US. I def need more stamps in my passport and hopefully by the end of my project I'll have many more. I just wish these volunteering and internships didn't cost so much =/

Day 4
Today I literally spend the entire day researching different organizations.
I woke up and called the Ronald McDonald House to see about volunteering position they have. For those of you who don't know about the RMH, their mission is to provide a home for seriously-ill children and their families. They have provided more than 20,000 families with a place to stay and when necessary, the financial support that they need to make it through a very uncertain time in their lives. THEIR AMAZING! =D
I remember once when I was little, my mom, sister, brother and I, decided to donate our toys to the RMH, and it was also my little sister, Coral's Birthday, so all the present she didn't like we donated as well. We got a tour of the building, it was beautiful and heart breaking as well. This was many many years ago but I will never forget how protective of the children's safety, privacy, and health they were.
I called but once again, no one picked up! I wish I understood this no picking up the phone thing....beats me =/
I kept on researching places that were looking for volunteers, jobs for non-profit orgs, and trying to cause awareness, along with filling up my planner with different events coming up.
An organization that I'm very interested in helping is NOH8. It kinda became trendy now with many celebs which is kinda like blahhh but NOH8 stand for equal rights and trying to overturn Prop 8. In the past 10 years, Equality California has worked with the Legislature and the courts to ensure that all loving and committed couples have the right to marry in California. I'm sorry to say but I LOVE THE GAYS & LESBIANS!!! First of all one of my all time favorite shows was The L Word. The L word was a show about a group of close friends who were lesbians, it was the Sex & the City for the Lesbian community. Watching the show for 6 season really made you understand the things these group of women have to go through.
I believe in LOVE. Without love there would be no happiness. I believe that some gay/lesbian couple could make greater parents then some of the actually "normal" couples out there. I don't think its anyone's business but theirs if they want to be married. Who is anyone to choose the fate of these peoples life? America is suppose to be the land of the free! So I think it's important to be more open minded and show the rest of the world, that love is, LOVE. Love your daughter, son, father, mother, sister, brother, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband and wife no matter their gender! Let them have their rights.

After lots of research I ended up apply for a job that's working on a Campaign to stop ocean pollution. Funny enough, I posted about that a few days ago. Right now an island of trash twice the size of Texas is floating in the Pacific. This mass of bottle tops and takeout food containers kills thousands of marine animals like sea turtles and over a million birds every year.
I filled out an application, one of the questions on it asked, why you want to work with us. I wrote them about my project and about 10mins later I got a phone call back from them!!! YAYYYY! I have an interview tomorrow at 6pm! This is exciting stuff!
I'm also looking to work at a foreign country, just trying to find a good date for me, which country I want to help first, and the cause I'm most interested in.
So since I kinda sat at home all day, and although I suppose, I did "something" for the world, I felt like it wasn't good enough. I have this new theory, that its NOT the thought that counts, its the action that counts! So I donated $5 to The UNICEF Tap Project. I found out about this project, surprisingly enough, on Nicole Richie website. The love Nicole Richie she did some serious self evaluation and cleaned up well and now is very involved in many charities and opened one with her boyfriend Joel Madden from Good Charlotte.
Right now over 4,000 children die every day from not having clean water. Donating $1 can supply a child with safe drinking water for 40days. That's wonderful!!! COME ON PEOPLE A $1! In most places a bottle water is a $1 and that lasts us what? a day? if not a few hours. Help a child in need!

Day 2
Last night I had planned to wake up early like at 11am and call one of my all time favorite Homeless Shelters, P.A.T.H. (People assisting the homeless). I had volunteered there a few times.
They have a great program for the homeless. They put them on a 6months program to get there live together. They give them all a little private room, feed them, clean clothes, and help them with job placements. They give them responsibilities such as curfew and other rules. The shelter is divided into 3 floors: Men, Women, Women & Children. On another side of the shelter they have a section called "The Mall" where they have different things like a salon, they have a courtroom, they even have classes to teach them things like typing, how to use a computer, and more skills. I really adore this place and this project. I actually once in High School suggested to my amazing English teacher to have us all go there as a classroom and we did!!! It was great! All the times I went there I helped cook and serve lunch.
The homeless were so grateful and kept thanking us all for being there =D
Well this morning I wanted to do it but I had woken up at almost 3pm because I went to sleep at 7am writing my blogs and reading my 10 pages. I made a goal and I cant stop not for a single day.
Well I ended up calling and they never picked up, I tried calling both shelters, there is one in Santa Monica and another in Los Angeles. None picked up! Boooo that sucks! I was looking forward to it. Maybe next weekend or tomorrow.
I went to have dinner with a friend today and realized that I had to go to the H&M at the mall to pick up clothes for a photoshoot I have tomorrow. I was trying to figure out what time they closed, so I went on there website on my phone and saw a section on the website that was to help a non-profit organization called "UNICEF all for children".
I think one of the world's greatest gifts are children. I LOVE LOVE LOVE KIDS! Everything about them! I love how excited a child gets when you tell them a story. That the simplest things like bubbles, rainbows, and butterflies make them so happy! I love how curious they are! Their just so excited and augured to learning new things! and of course they are big BIG dreamers!!! They believe they can do anything!...Kinda like ME! haha If I was to open a non-profit it would have to be for children!
Wellllll back to what I was saying lol. So I went to www.hm.com/allforchildren to learn more about this organization and they are actually one of the biggest, if not the biggest children's non-profit organizations! They help children from allll over the world in almost every country! You can actually go on their website and select a country and then read the time line of what they have done for that country! It's wonderful! Of course I looked up Israel ;) and then Italy and Iraq because they were all near eachother. It was actually pretty amazing to see how they helped for example Israel way back in 1948, they provided food, blankets, and other essentials for 18 months when Israel first became a country! Later on in 1989 Israel issued a postage stamp and memento page in honor of UNICEF.
What a great cause! LOVE IT!
I ended up reading more interesting facts for about an hour and then donated $5 to Israel. You can do it, to whatever country you want and you can pick for what cause. I choose "Whatever is most needed".
Yesterday as I read my 10 pages a day, I learned that there are 46,000 pieces of plastic waste in every square mile of the world's ocean! That's sad!!! Please pick up your trash and keep the ocean clean! It's one of G*d most beautiful creation! 40% of all sea life has been destroyed over the last 25 years as a result of human pollution =( thats terriblllleee!!!
I used to have a saltwater fish tank for a few years and know how hard it is to maintain marine life and no matter how much work I had to put into it, like making sure the water was warm enough, salty enough, and clean, it was soooo worth it and rewarding each and everyday to see my beautiful exotic fish happy and healthy! 75% of earth is the ocean! Keep our planet clean. There is trash cans all over beaches, please don't leave things in the sand. At night the tide gets high and the water raises and everything goes straight into the ocean =( It's very simple to grab your trash as you are grabbing the rest of your belongings. THANK YOU!!!!
